I grew up watching Grace Kelly movies. Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, and Dial M for Murder are among my favorites. So when I had the chance to visit her grave site in Monaco, it was a surreal feeling. Ask anyone in Monaco on the street about Princess Grace, and they will tell you amazing stories of compassion, beauty and of course, grace. One man, about my age, said she was the most beautiful person that ever existed. I believe it.
Besides the beautiful scenery that caught Princess Grace’s attention, the other obvious trademark feature of Monaco is the Monte Carlo Casino. I have never seen so much wealth anywhere else in my life. Every car that was parked on the street worth well over $100,000. Every boat in the marina was a huge yacht. I even saw the ship owned by the Prince of Saudi Arabia, which rivaled the size of the cruise ships in the marina.
Monaco is also hugely famous for the Monaco Grand Prix, the Formula One race held annually at the Circuit de Monaco. It is known for being one of the most glamorous and prestigious events in the world. You’ll recognize the track from Iron Man 2.
At the end of the day, I loved the beauty and tranquility of Monaco, although I felt completely underdressed for touring around such an elite city.
To me, anywhere on the Mediterranean Sea is magical and surreal. But, Monaco’s fascinating history of kings, castles, and princesses mixed with it’s colorful architecture and beautiful people, is what makes this city truly amazing.
I can’t wait to visit this city of gold again.
